Invisalign Clear Aligners
A quiet, gradual way to straighten teeth without brackets, wires, or fuss.
What this is, in plain language
Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of thin, clear plastic trays called aligners. Each set is shaped slightly differently from the last, and each one nudges your teeth a small, planned distance. You wear a set for about one to two weeks, then move to the next. Because the trays are removable, you eat, brush, and floss exactly as you always have, with nothing cemented to your teeth.
Your treatment starts with a digital scan rather than a tray of impression putty. A small wand glides over your teeth and builds a precise three dimensional model in a few minutes. From that model, Dr. Holt maps out every stage of movement before you ever wear a tray, so you can see a preview of the expected result and know roughly how long your treatment will take.
At Willow Lane, we keep Invisalign visits short and unhurried. Check ins happen every six to eight weeks, usually lasting fifteen to twenty minutes, and most of your progress happens quietly at home. We plan conservatively, moving teeth at a pace that keeps you comfortable, and we talk through retainers early so the result you finish with is the result you keep.
This might be right for you if
- You want straighter teeth without the look or feel of metal braces.
- You keep noticing crowding or small gaps when you see photos of yourself.
- You had braces years ago and your teeth have slowly drifted since.
- You want a treatment that fits around meetings, meals, and daily life.
- You prefer fewer, shorter appointments spread out over the year.
What to expect
Invisalign runs mostly on your own schedule, with short, spaced-out check-ins. Treatment involves:
- A digital scan of your teeth, with no impression putty
- A stage-by-stage plan and a preview of the expected result before you wear a tray
- Small tooth-colored attachments placed on some teeth to help the trays grip
- A new set of aligners worn about one to two weeks each, changed at home
- A check-in every six to eight weeks, and retainers once your teeth reach their final positions
How it unfolds, step by step
Scan and planning
A digital scanner captures a detailed model of your teeth in minutes, with no impression putty. Dr. Holt uses it to plan each stage of movement and show you a preview of the finished result.
Your first trays
A few weeks later, your aligners arrive. We check the fit, place any small tooth colored attachments that help the trays grip, and walk you through wear time, cleaning, and what the first days feel like.
Steady progress
You change trays at home on a set schedule, usually every one to two weeks, and visit us every six to eight weeks so we can confirm your teeth are tracking with the plan.
Finishing and retainers
When your teeth reach their final positions, we remove any attachments, polish the enamel, and fit you with retainers that protect your new alignment for the long term.
Caring for it afterward
Aligners work best with a steady routine, and retainers protect the result for good:
- Wear each set 20 to 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat, drink anything but water, and brush
- Rinse the trays and brush them gently with cool water; hot water can warp them
- Brush and floss before putting the trays back in, so nothing is sealed against your teeth
- Keep the trays in their case when they are out, not wrapped in a napkin
- After treatment, wear your retainer nightly, since teeth drift throughout life
Questions everyone asks
Most treatments at our practice run between six and eighteen months, depending on how far your teeth need to move. Minor crowding can finish on the shorter end. Dr. Holt gives you a realistic estimate at your planning visit, before you commit to anything.
New trays usually feel snug for the first day or two, a pressure similar to the ache after a good workout. It fades as your teeth settle. Most people manage it with nothing at all, or an over the counter pain reliever on the first evening.
The trays work best when worn twenty to twenty two hours a day. You take them out to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush. Consistency matters more than perfection, and we help you build a routine that feels manageable.
The trays are thin and clear, and at conversational distance they are very hard to spot. Some people notice a slight lisp for the first few days, which fades quickly as your tongue adjusts.
You wear a retainer to hold your new alignment, full time for a short period and then just at night. Teeth drift throughout life, so nighttime retainer wear is the habit that protects your investment. We check your retainers at your regular cleanings.
